Restaurant cancellation alerts: how to catch an opening
A restaurant cancellation alert tells you when a matching table becomes available. Start with the alert option on the restaurant’s official booking platform, choose a date and party size, and be ready to complete the reservation. An alert does not hold the table for you.
Start where the restaurant takes bookings
Follow the reservation link on the restaurant’s own website. This avoids setting up alerts against an outdated listing or a different branch. OpenTable offers Notify Me for matching openings. You still need to complete the reservation after receiving an alert.
Check these details before choosing an alert service
Use this checklist when comparing a platform’s own alerts with a separate monitoring service. A long list of restaurant names is less useful than clear support for your exact booking.
| Check | What you need to know |
|---|---|
| Coverage | The exact restaurant, branch and booking platform. |
| Preferences | Date range, party size, seating type and acceptable times. |
| Notification | How the alert reaches you and whether you can respond promptly. |
| Cost | Monitoring charges, renewal terms and any separate restaurant deposit. |
| Booking | Whether you book yourself, or have explicitly authorized a supported booking action. |
Make a small plan before the alert arrives
Write down your non-negotiables before checking availability. For example: two people, Friday, 6:30–8:30 p.m., indoors, within a 30-minute journey. This is a planning example, not a live restaurant search.
Check the menu and booking conditions in advance. A newly available tasting menu may have a different price or cancellation policy from the standard dining room. An opening only helps if it fits the evening you want.
When a table opens
Open the official booking page, check the details again and finish the reservation. Keep the confirmation. If the slot has gone, leave suitable alerts active and use a backup plan rather than treating the notification as a booking.
If you already hold another reservation, check its cancellation deadline before changing plans. Cancel any table you no longer need promptly through the provider.
Where Slother fits
Slother is being developed around a Watch: your dates, places and preferences kept together while supported sources are checked. Restaurant coverage and monitoring prices are not confirmed yet. Explore the app to see the planned experience and choose your platform for launch information.
Sources checked on . Booking policies can change; confirm details on the official booking page. Slother is independent of the platforms and restaurants mentioned.
